Background

T

he Communist Party of Romania, PCdR – established in May 1921 – activated clandestinely from 1924 to 1944 because of its political program and as the organization and operation way were considered by the authorities of time as a threat to the state order. The party emerged from the underground after the Act of August 23, 1944 and the removal of the regime of Ion Antonescu, the restoring of multi-party system, the amnesty of political prisoners (except Legionnaires) and the abolition of internment camps.

personal records of members, supporters, conspirators and "fellow travelers" connected with PCdR in the first two decades of existence (1921-1944) were recently identified at ANIC.

Project &CO is an ongoing prosopographical study aiming to reconstruct the group of the ones connected with PCdR during the illegals, and which finally, through the database query, will be generating social network charts relevant especially in the historical studies.
